Rukmini and Vitthalpant Kulkarni had four children, among whom Sopanadev was the third. Sopanadev was born on Kartik Shuddha Pournima, Sunday, in the year 1199 of the Shalivahana era (1277 AD). Nivruttinath, Dnyaneshwar, Muktabai, and Sopanadev lost their parents at a very young age. After their parents' passing, these siblings stayed together, enduring every hardship, humiliation, and insult that came their way. They faced everything with patience, whether it was begging for alms, or traveling anywhere. They remained united through all these trials. However, after Dnyaneshwar Maharaj attained Samadhi, all happiness was lost. A sense of detachment began to grow in Sopanadev. Eventually, after Dnyaneshwar Maharaj's departure and feeling detached from worldly affairs, Sopanadev took Samadhi in Saswad in the month of Margashirsha, in the year 1218 of the Shalivahana era (1296 AD).
